Prior to fully committing to the real estate industry, Dave retired as an NYPD Sergeant in 2002 after responding to the World Trade Center attack on September 11th, where he tragically lost his partner. His unwavering commitment to safeguarding others, honed during his tenure with New York City’s finest, continues to drive his leadership, service, and advocacy for safety in the real estate profession today. 

Under his leadership, in collaboration with his partner and wife, Nancy, The Legaz Team has emerged as one of the leading real estate teams in New York City and Long Island. The team is renowned for its unwavering commitment to honesty, integrity, and exceptional client service.

Drawing upon two decades of service with the New York Police Department and over 30 years in the real estate industry, Dave dedicates a significant portion of his career to educating REALTORS® on safeguarding themselves against predatory behavior, encompassing a range of incidents such as robbery, assault, and sexual violence. He is the co-author of “Safe Selling: A Practical Guide for Preventing Crime without Sacrificing the Sale,” a nationally recognized resource that addresses agent safety.

Since 2013, Dave has served as a National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) Director. Following his graduation from the NAR Leadership Academy in 2019, he spearheaded the establishment of the REALTOR® Safety Advisory Committee and assumed its inaugural chairmanship in 2020. Furthermore, Dave has served as the National Fundraising Co-Chair for the NAR REALTORS® Relief Foundation (RRF) in 2021 and 2022, and continues to serve on its Board of Directors. Most recently, he has served as the NAR Broker Relations Liaison for 2024 and is the 2027 NAR Region 2 Vice President Elect.

At the state and local levels, Dave has held esteemed positions, including serving as President of the New York State Association of REALTORS® (2021), past President of the Long Island Board of REALTORS® (2017), and 2014 LIBOR REALTOR® of the Year. He has been a NYSAR Director since 2012.
