Douglaston is a charming residential neighborhood located in the northeastern section of the New York City borough of Queens. It is bordered by Nassau County to the east, Bayside to the west, Little Neck Bay to the north, and Alley Pond Park to the south.
Known for its quiet, suburban atmosphere within New York City and School District 26, Douglaston is considered one of the least traditionally urban neighborhoods in the city. Many areas, particularly north of Northern Boulevard, offer an upscale suburban feel similar to nearby Nassau County communities such as Great Neck. The neighborhood comprises several distinctive sections, including Douglaston Hill and Douglas Manor, both known for their historic charm, tree-lined streets, waterfront views, and beautiful architecture.
Douglaston features a diverse mix of housing, including stately Colonials, Tudors, capes, single-family homes, cooperatives, condominiums, and luxury waterfront residences. The neighborhood has a strong sense of community and is well known for its active civic organizations, including the Douglaston Civic Association and the Douglas Manor Association. Douglaston is also rich in history, with two historic districts, Douglas Manor and Douglaston Hill, as well as the Allen-Beville House and Cornelius Van Wyck House listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Residents enjoy access to beautiful parks and outdoor recreation, including nearby Alley Pond Park, one of Queens’ largest parks, offering hiking trails, playgrounds, athletic fields, and environmental programs. Little Neck Bay and the Douglaston waterfront provide scenic views, boating opportunities, and a peaceful coastal setting. Northern Boulevard and the Douglaston Plaza area offer convenient shopping, dining, and cafes.
Douglaston offers convenient transportation to Manhattan, Long Island, and the surrounding areas. The Long Island Rail Road Port Washington line provides direct service to Penn Station in approximately 30 minutes. Major roadways, including the Long Island Expressway, Cross Island Parkway, Grand Central Parkway, and Northern Boulevard, make driving convenient, while local and express bus lines provide additional transportation options throughout Queens and Manhattan.
