David Legaz

Prior to fully committing to the real estate industry, David Legaz retired as an NYPD Sergeant in 2002 after responding to the World Trade Center attack on September 11th, where he tragically lost his partner. His years of service with the NYPD shaped the way he works with clients today: with protection, preparation, honesty, and a deep sense of responsibility. David primarily serves Queens, Manhattan, Long Island, and the greater New York City market. Together with his wife and business partner, Nancy, he leads The Legaz Team, one of the leading real estate teams in New York City and Long Island. With over 30 years of real estate experience, David and Nancy have built their business on honesty, integrity, local knowledge, strong negotiation, and exceptional client service. David works with a wide range of buyers and sellers, with a strong focus on homeowners, co-op and condo owners, seniors, downsizers, estate situations, families making major life transitions, and clients who need trusted guidance through a complicated real estate process. Whether helping someone sell a longtime family home, purchase their first property, or navigate the details of a New York co-op transaction, David believes clients deserve clear communication, straight answers, and a professional who will protect their interests at every step. His background in law enforcement and his decades in real estate have given him a unique perspective on safety, trust, and responsibility. Drawing upon two decades of service with the New York Police Department and over 30 years in the real estate industry, David also dedicates a significant portion of his career to educating REALTORS® on safeguarding themselves against predatory behavior, including robbery, assault, and sexual violence. He is the co-author of Safe Selling: A Practical Guide for Preventing Crime without Sacrificing the Sale, a nationally recognized resource that addresses agent safety. Since 2013, David has served as a National Association of REALTORS® Director. Following his graduation from the NAR Leadership Academy in 2019, he spearheaded the establishment of the REALTOR® Safety Advisory Committee and served as its inaugural chair in 2020. David also proudly served as the National Fundraising Co-Chair for the NAR REALTORS® Relief Foundation in 2021 and 2022 during its 20th Anniversary and continues to serve on its Board of Directors. Most recently, he served as the NAR Broker Relations Liaison for 2024 and is the 2027 NAR Region 2 Vice President Elect. At the state and local levels, Dave has held numerous leadership roles, including President of the New York State Association of REALTORS® in 2021, President of the Long Island Board of REALTORS® in 2017, President of the Asian American Real Estate Association NY East Chapter in 2015-2016 and 2014 LIBOR REALTOR® of the Year. He has also served as a NYSAR Director since 2012. Outside of real estate, Dave enjoys spending time with his family, boating, fishing, cooking, wine, and following New York sports especially the Jets and Mets.
